The Craftercise Program

About the Program

Craftercise is a unique, contemporary and holistic program for pre-school aged children that fosters learning through play. It combines the joy of creativity, the delight of imagination and the thrill of a movement and art adventure.

Children (under the supervision of their parent/carer) participate in a range of engaging, interactive and self-paced circuit based activities using soft play, recycled equipment, musical instruments, sensory and play equipment. Weekly themes integrate activities across key learning areas including: literacy, numeracy, art and craft, movement and physical activity.

The inclusive and friendly atmosphere will make all adults and children feel welcome. In addition to children having an opportunity to take away a weekly creation from the art and craft activities you will also be provided with activity ideas to try at home.  Each session includes messy play-based stations (optional) that children will love and best of all we will take care of the mess. This unique and contemporary program is tailored to each age group using developmentally appropriate activities inclusive of children of all abilities and learning styles. The program is conducted using a combination of state of the art and safe physical activity, sensory and craft equipment in addition to recycled, rescued, reused and home-made materials.

Benefits of Craftercise

Craftercise promotes a ‘play-based learning’ environment where children learn to make sense of the world around them. The unstructured nature of children’s play during the Craftercise experience is more developmentally appropriate for pre-schoolers than participation in the more structured nature of organised sport. Here is just a snapshot of benefits from participation in the Craftercise program:

  • Imagination and creativity

  • Confidence

  • Social skills

  • Problem solving

  • Decision making

  • Coordination

  • Cognitive development

  • Neurological development

  • Tailored to all abilities and learning styles

  • Designed by experienced educators

  • Based on the latest international evidence relating to children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual development

  • Best of all – we clean up the mess!

Age Groups

All children will explore a range of tactile activities and active movements designed to develop co-ordination and neurological development. During the session children will also have the chance to engage in art and craft activities where we focus on the process rather than the final product and will be able to create something special to take home each week.  Messy play encourages confidence and imagination so children have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves (literally) in all things messy like gloopy goo, splatting paint and squelchy jelly during the messy play stations. At the end of each session we have warm soapy water for cleaning your child.

Messy Monkeys (6 – 18 months)Mascot-Messy-Monkey-White-Outline

This is designed especially for littlies to
move, play and explore the world around them. Whether your baby is wriggling, rolling, crawling or walking there is loads of sensory play, messy play, art and movement opportunities to experience. At this stage children love to explore by putting everything in their mouths so we ensure everything used is safe and non-toxic.

Dizzy Ducks (18 months – 3 years)Mascot-Dizzy-Duck-White-Outline

If your little duck is steady on their feet they are ready to experience our Dizzy Ducks program for toddlers. They will have an opportunity to explore all physical activity, art and craft and messy play stations at their own pace and with the freedom to use and develop their imagination and creativity. They will have the chance to experiment with different textures, compounds and materials through play with paint, water, goo, sand and play-dough, just to name a few.

Crafty Crocs (3 – 5 years)Mascot-Crafty-Croc-White-Outline

Now that your child has joined the Crafty Crocs and shows greater independence, we encourage them in the development of their motor skills, social skills and literacy and numeracy skills. We place an emphasis on valuing their choices and decisions on how to play and offer encouragement and praise when they can share with us what they learnt and created. Children will have the opportunity to participate in physical activities and movement to music, art and craft and messy and sensory play like the other age groups, with the addition of science experiments just for the Crafty Crocs age group.

What to wear/bring

We recommend that children wear old clothes to participate in a craftercise session. As much as we try to use washable products we cannot guarantee that all marks will come out of clothing. Also be mindful that the parent/guardian will be interacting closely with their child at all times so may want to wear old clothes themselves or bring a change of clothes.

You will also need to bring

  • a change of clothes
  • towel
  • wipes
  • plastic bag for dirty clothes/towel/nappies

What’s supplied

  • Non-toxic art and craft materials (children will take away a creation each session)
  • Children’s and adult’s smocks/aprons
  • Dynamic, fully qualified and experienced facilitators
  • High quality and contemporary physical activity and sensory play equipment
